Post Op Instructions Root Planing Scaling Day 7

We wanted to reach out today to say hello, and to follow-up regarding your recent scaling and root planing procedure. At this point in time, you should be free of discomfort and see a noticeable difference in the health of your gum tissue. If not, please call our office to see how we can help.

Also, since adhering to a comprehensive oral care routine is paramount to managing periodontal disease, we wanted to share with you a few tips that will help prevent the reoccurrence of the painfully red, bleeding gum tissue you once had:

Keep your periodontal maintenance appointments. If you have not yet scheduled your first follow-up appointment, be sure to set one up. These professional cleanings are far superior to your everyday brushing habit and are critical to keeping ahead of your periodontal disease.

Floss often, and curve the floss when you do. In order for flossing to do its job, you have to guide the floss along the natural curvature of the tooth, downward and slightly below the gumline. Most of us simply slide the floss up and down horizontally between our teeth which misses plaque that hides below the gumline. Curving the floss is key.

Use supplemental care products. Antibacterial mouthwash, chewing-gum with Xylitol, and a water flosser are proven methods for disturbing the environment that supports plaque. Using such tools in combination with flossing and regular professional care will help you maintain a healthy mouth and keep your periodontal disease in check.

As always, if you need anything at all, please reach out – we’re always here for you at Todays Dental @ Lexington. Thank you for the continued trust and the opportunity to deliver your dental care.
