Advantage Arrest - Todays dental

At Todays Dental, we understand the apprehension that dental patients feel when faced with the possibility of cavities. The mere thought of discomfort in your mouth can be unnerving, causing you to hold your breath during your dentist visits, anxiously awaiting the news about the health of your teeth. The same goes for parents, who anxiously wring their hands until they learn whether their children have cavities or not.

What you may not realize is that we, your dentists, are right there with you, rooting for your dental well-being and that of your children. Thankfully, we have a better and gentler solution to traditional cavity fillings: Advantage Arrest.

So, what happens when we discover cavities?

Alongside the disappointment of learning about cavities, there’s the concern of receiving the right treatment. Not only do you have to endure the drilling necessary to eliminate tooth decay and prepare for a filling, but you also have to handle the discomfort caused by the needle administering local anesthesia.

Advantage Arrest contains two active ingredients that make it highly effective:

  1. Silver Diamine: This antimicrobial component eliminates harmful oral bacteria responsible for cavities and gum disease. It also prevents the formation of plaque, the biofilm teeming with bacteria.

  2. Fluoride: A natural mineral, fluoride helps prevent tooth demineralization, which contributes to decay and tooth wear.

How does Advantage Arrest work?

With Advantage Arrest, there’s typically no need for local anesthesia or drilling. Instead, we follow a simple application process:

  1. We thoroughly brush and rinse your teeth.
  2. We isolate and dry the teeth affected by cavities.
  3. We remove any excess debris from the isolated teeth.
  4. We apply a drop of silver diamine fluoride to a micro brush and place it on the cavity for approximately two minutes.
  5. We remove any excess silver diamine fluoride.
  6. We advise you to refrain from eating or drinking for at least one hour after the treatment.

What are the effects of Advantage Arrest?

Advantage Arrest provides immediate relief from tooth hypersensitivity, effectively eliminates harmful oral bacteria, and strengthens dentin. This fortifies your teeth against acid produced by bacteria and reduces the risk of abrasion. Additionally, while Advantage Arrest may stain areas that require attention, it will not stain strong and healthy teeth.

For several decades, silver diamine fluoride has been successfully used to combat harmful oral bacteria and treat cavities in various countries, including Australia, China, and Japan. With over eight decades of use in Japan, it has undergone twelve clinical trials, proving its effectiveness. Initially developed to alleviate dental hypersensitivity, it was later discovered to be highly valuable in cavity prevention and treatment.
